Education:
I received
my M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Electrical and
Computer Engineering at Carnegie
Mellon University.
Research
Interests:
My
research interests are in statistical signal processing with
applications in image and video processing, multimedia
communications, bioinformatics, and physical sciences. Current
focus is on time reversal and distributed sensor networks.
of selected publications. To get an overview of time
reversal, click on the audio
of my seminar presentation given at the Fields
Institute on August 25, 2008 as part of the Workshop
on
Quantitative
Cancer
Modelling: Mathematical Models, Imaging and Bioinformatics.
We have
excellent opportunities for graduate students interested in
statistical signal processing and multimedia communications.
If you are interested in these areas, please feel free to
contact me at this Email
Address.
Teaching:
I take
teaching very seriously and believe in rigorous education that
fosters critical thinking, facilitates the acquisition of
life-long learning skills, and develops problem solving
strategies in my students. I have the distinction of receiving
several teaching awards including the FGS Teaching
Excellence Award from the Faculty of Graduate Studies in
2009; the York University Wide Teaching Award
(Full-Time Senior Faculty Category) in 2008 from York
University; the FSE Teaching Excellence Award (Senior
Faculty Category) from the Faculty of Science and Engineering
in 2006 and in 2004; and the CSE Mildred Baptist Teaching
Excellence Award from the Department of Computer Science
and Engineering in 2006 and in 2003.

Professional
Activities:
I am the
Chair of the Department of Electrical
Engineering and Computer Science (2007 – date), Vice
Chair (elected) of the Senate,
York University (2013 - date) and members of
several committees of the Lassonde School of Engineering. In
the past, I have served as the Chair and Vice-Chair
(elected member) of the Senate Sub-Committee on Academic
Standard, Curriculum, and Pedagogy (ASCP) (2009-12), member of
the Senate, York
University (2007 - date), member of
several Faculty
of Science and Engineering (FSE) Committees including
the FSE Executive and Planning Committee (2007 – date), FSE Chairs and Directors Committee
(2007 – 08), FSE Resource Committee, School of Engineering
Management and Planning Committee (EMPC), and member of
several prominent Department of Computer Science and
Engineering Committees. My earlier professional commitments
included the Director of the Computer
Engineering program at York University (2006 – 2007).
Also, I am involved in the department's undergraduate and
graduate programs in Computer Science
and Computer
Engineering.
My other
current professional commitments include serving as the
Associate Editor for IEEE
Transactions on Signal Processing (2013 – date), Member,
Professional Engineers Ontario
(PEO) (2004 – date), and Senior Member IEEE (2003 – date).
Previously, I have served as the Associate Editor for IEEE
Signal
Processing
Letters (2001 – 2004, 2009 - 13) and various other
professional categories including organizing two IEEE
international conferences.
