Mac OSX Development Environment
Follow the same instructions as those for Linux except for these difference:
- Download the JDK from Apple rather than Oracle
Specifically, go to
this site and search for the latest Java SE update that is
compatible with your O/S version (e.g. 10.5 or 10.6) and bit width (32 or 64). You can, for example, enter
java for Mac OS X 10.x in the Search Downloads box (where x is your O/S version) and download
the latest update. The dmg
installer will auto launch when the download is complete. Accept all
the defaults.
- The JDK directory location is different
You will find the standard bin
and lib
directories in:
/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.x.y/Home
where
x
and y
are the major/minor JDK version.
- The Extension directory is not under
JRE
Instead, place the type.jar
file in
/Library/Java/Extensions
