- Just a reminder
that late assignments/lab reports can be submitted but will result in a
deduction of marks (10% for each day it is late).

actually attempt to solve the problems)!
- You are strongly urged
to answer some of the questions from your
textbook at the end of the chapters. Questions with a "*"
indicate solutions are available from the textbook website.

Tuesday, October 18
2005

lecture notes from Monday's (Oct. 17) lecture are now available - see
"Lectures" link.
Thursday, October 13

textbook.
Thursday, October 6
2005
- "Prelim" lecture
notes for Monday's (October 17) lecture are now available via the
"Lectures" link. In this
lecture, the topic of spatial domain filtering will be introduced - it
is highly recommended you attend this lecture since it is a very
important topic!
- Lab 4 (including
lab 4 assignment) is available via the "Assignments" link. It is
recommended you read the lab in advance of the lab! There is no lab report to be submitted for
this lab.
- Just for your own
interest and amusement, take a look at
the following image following these guidelines:
If your eyes follow the movement
of the rotating pink dot, you will only see one color, pink. If you stare at the black +
in the center, the moving dot turns to green. Now, concentrate on the
black + in the center of the picture. After a short period of time, all the
pink dots will slowly disappear, and you will only see a green dot
rotating. It's amazing
how our brain works. There really is no green dot, and the pink ones really don't
disappear. This should be proof enough, we don't always see what we think we
see.
Wednesday, October 5
2005
- "Updated ("final")
lecture notes from Monday's (Oct. 3) lecture are now available - see
"Lectures" link.
- A note regarding
the assignment for lab 3 (question 2). Keep in mind that the
problem is actually difficult - I am not looking for a correct answer
but rather, I am looking for you to use the knowledge you have gained
so far in the course and apply it to the problem (e.g., I am looking
for your thought process into solving the problem). I suggest you
try and be specific when referring to a pixel's neighbors (use the
spatial coordinates of a pixel and its neighbors e.g., x,y).
- As mentioned in
the lecture on Monday (Oct. 3), here are the due dates for the
labs/assignments so far:
Lab 1 Assignment:
Tuesday, October 4 2005 (11:59pm)
Lab 2 Report:
Monday, October 17 2005
Lab 2 Assignment: Monday, October 17 2005

- The majority of
the labs in this course will involve the use of specialized equipment
(e.g., digital camera, acquisition boards, etc.) and software (e.g.,
Matlab and Labview). No equipment can be used after regularly
scheduled lab hours and no other instructor can provide you access to
any of this specialized equipment. Therefore, you must complete
the labs during the regularly scheduled lab hours. Of course, you
are encouraged to read the labs before the lab period and work on any
portion of the lab where the use of the equipment is not
necessary. Matlab and Labview are available in the other
(accessible) labs.

- First lecture -
Welcome to ELIC 629!
- In the lecture it
was mentioned how there will be no surprises with respect to test
material (e.g., you will be tested on material covered in the lecture,
lecture notes etc.). You are or course also responsible for
relevant textbook material. The appropriate textbook sections for
each lecture will be posted in the "lectures" page.
